Abuse of Power in Public Office under Kuwaiti Law
Public officials in Kuwait are legally bound to act in the public interest. Any abuse of authority—such as exploiting position for personal gain or manipulating public funds—is penalized under Articles 48–50 and Anti-Corruption Law No. 2 of 2016.
Examples of Abuse of Office
- Granting contracts to relatives or partners.
- Using official influence for personal favors.
- Delaying or denying services based on personal motives.
Penalties and Oversight
- Imprisonment up to 10 years depending on damage caused.
- Dismissal from public office.
- Referral to Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha).
Legal Remedies
- File complaints through Nazaha with evidence.
- Seek legal injunctions and compensation claims.
